Our Story
Who We Are
Oranges for the People is a student run organization made to help communities in Orange County by sharing fresh fruits and striving to minimize food insecurity and food waste. Founded by Kate Chung in November of 2023, OFTP began after the realization of how many oranges fall and rot on sidewalks of Orange County as a result of the physically taxing nature of taking care of the plentiful fruit trees in our neighborhood. Our mission is to bring smiles to peoples' faces and connect with others with the values of generosity, kindness, and community.
What We Do
With the help of our volunteers, Oranges for the People handpicks citizen-owned fruit trees (by their request, of course) to minimize food waste in Orange County. After picking the fruits, we GIFT some back to the tree owner, EAT some with our volunteers, and GIVE BACK to our community by donating the fruits to local food banks and shelters!
